  • What is the PTO or Parent Teacher Organization?

The Canopy Oaks PTO is a very important part of our school, bringing so much to parents, teachers, and, most importantly, the students. The PTO is an organization made up of parents and teachers.  There are no dues or fees to be a part of this special school organization. The only requirement is that you are a Canopy Oaks Elementary School Parent! Parents and teachers come together once a month to decide on fundraisers and where the monies raised are needed most in our school. The meetings are not only informative, decision-making meetings, but are fun for the parents as well. The PTO is a great way for the parents who would like to be involved in their children's lives to be a part of their children's school. Parents can meet other parents with similar interests and learn who our teachers are. The monthly meetings are usually the first Tuesday of each month at 6 pm and last for about an hour.

    What does the PTO do?

The PTO's primary objective is to host fundraisers to raise funding for the school and decide where these monies will be spent. Some of our fun and exciting fundraisers have been the Canopy Oaks Cardinal Carnival! The PTO is very proud to have implemented new programs and provided resources that otherwise would not be at our school using these funds. Some of the monies raised have been spent on book programs, honor roll certificates, awards, field trips and ceremonies, equipment for the classroom, enrichment programs, and teacher/classroom wish list items.

Who can become a PTO member? How do you become a member?

Anyone who is a parent or legal guardian of a Canopy Oaks student is strongly encouraged to join the PTO as part of being an involved parent. Becoming a member is very easy. Simply attend a meeting! There are no PTO dues or sign up fees!

Do you have to attend meetings to be involved?

No. Many of our involved PTO parents are not able to attend all meetings and, some parents in some cases cannot attend any of the meetings. However, they are still involved by participating in the fundraisers such as the Cardinal Carnival, sending in items for different events, and attending different events. We do strongly encourage parents to attend when they can to share ideas and for decision-making items.

How can you stay up-to-date on these and other exciting non-PTO events?

Sign up for the COES Listserv!  Announcements, updates and other pertinent information from our school are sent out straight to your inbox. There is no cost for this service and it is easy to join.  Also, all information is posted on the PTO website, located on the Canopy Oaks home web page.

We hope that you will take part in this very important, worthwhile organization at your child's school. Happy new school year!! We look forward to seeing you soon.
