We are having a really great year so far. We just completed our unit on “I’m Special” and now we are learning about “Families Everywhere”. We enjoyed a big book titled Families that was full of wonderful photographs of different kinds of families. The best thing we learned from this book is that a family is made up of a group of people who love each other! YES!! We also enjoyed a book titled Daisy and the Egg. This was a precious story about a duck who eagerly awaits the hatching of her baby brother. The children really enjoyed listening to this story and worked on retelling the beginning, middle, and end. We have also enjoyed finger plays, songs, and poems. We have continued to work on naming familiar sounds and we are working to listen to several sounds and tell which one we hear first, next, and last. Getting tricky! We also learned our first sight word, “a”.
In math, we have enjoyed an introduction to patterns by moving in patterns. For example, clap, stomp, clap, stomp, clap, stomp, etc. We all love these activities that let us move around. We have practiced counting up to 10 objects, giving a requested number of objects, and recognizing how many objects the teacher has and trying to get the exact same number of objects to match the teacher. Fun, fun, fun!
Our student of the week last week was Jase. We celebrate Jase for doing an amazing job of transitioning to preschool and mastering so many goals so quickly! It is obvious to see that he is enjoying following in the footsteps of his big brothers.
Our student of the week this week is Courteney. We are so proud of Courteney for how focused she is during learning opportunities and how hard she is working to show mastery of skills presented in each lesson. It is amazing to see all of our friends change so much and this fills us with great excitement for the year ahead.
We have several important dates coming up. Please check our calendar on our class website, but this coming Wednesday, September 23rd is a school holiday. School will be closed. Then the next Wednesday, September 30th is individual picture day. Be prepared to look super cute that day for an awesome pre-k photo.
Please also check our class website for an updated wish list. We are adding the following items to that list: plastic forks, plastic spoons, small plastic cups, and several bags of play sand. Our sensory tables were built this weekend and we are looking forward to using them this week!!

We hope you have enjoyed a wonderful weekend with your family. We are looking forward to the week ahead as we continue to learn more about “Families Everywhere”.
