Classroom Discipline Policies in Art
Every year we begin classes with a discussion of art room rules. We emphasize that all the rules students have in their regular classes are also the same as our art room rules. Our rules are based upon four large themes:
1) We are here to Listen and Learn.
I listen carefully. I raise my hand and wait to be called on. I use time wisely. I do my best.
I have a positive attitude. I take responsibility for my actions.
2) Respect People.
I treat others the way I want to be treated. I keep hands and feet to myself. I share.
I respect other students’ artwork. I use appropriate language.
3) Be safe.
I walk inside. I sit properly. I use tools and materials safely.
4) Respect Property.
I take care of my art supplies. I take care of the art room. I clean up after myself.
I don’t waste materials.
Students earn points for Effort/ Participation daily. Each student earn a score of 1-4.
* Score of 1-4 will be reflected as 0-10pts for online grades by adding 6pts to their score.
[score_1 will be 7pts (C); score_2 will be 8pts (B); score_3 will be 9pts (A); score_4 will be 10pts (A)]
(Scores are written from the student’s perspective and displayed in the art room for a reminder)
4 I did MORE than expected. I made great choices and was helpful. I was creative and awesome. WOW!
- Students may record their helpful, creative or outstanding accomplishment for the day.
3 I did what was expected. I followed directions and made good choices.
2 I could have done better… with following directions and making better choices. I was reminded 3 or more times.
- Students will write a personal goal to improve for the following week in art.
1 I had to go to Time Out. I did not get my work done.
- Students will write a personal goal to improve for the following week in art.
When a student breaks a rule, the following actions are taken:
* Verbal warning. Continual reminders will result in a daily score of 2.
* Time out. Will result in a daily score of 1.
- Teacher is notified when student is in Time Out.
- Parent Contact will be made if a student is sent to Time Out more than two times in a nine week period.
* Behavior report to be signed by parent/guardian.
* Conference with Assistant Principal or Guidance Counselor.
