WHEN IT COMES TO FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
May 24, 2018
As the school year comes to a close and the final grades come in, Leon County Schools is proud to announce high marks in fiscal responsibility.
- For the first time in over three decades, Leon County Schools’ received zero financial audit findings by the Auditor General’s Office.
- Over the previous eighteen months, the school district has paid down capital debt by over $31 million.
- Just this month, Moody’s Investor Service assigned as Aa2 issues rating to the Leon County School District—meaning the district has a very strong capacity to meet financial commitments well into the future.
- Over the last year we have increased the Emergency Reserve and Unrestricted Fund balance by $3.5 million.“The financial health of our school system is critical for the future success of our students and schools. I am extremely proud of the work we have done over the last year and a half to live within our means and reduce the district’s capital debt,” said Superintendent Rocky Hanna. “Being a good steward of taxpayer dollars and spending responsibly will position us to be financially sound in the years to come.”
Additionally, LCS recently announced capital projects at Rickards ($35 million) and Fairview ($21 million) that will be completed without the district borrowing any new money.
