    School Carnival:

Moore’s annual school carnival will be held Friday, April 21st  from 3:00-6:00. Information on ticket sales and volunteering opportunities will be coming home with your child. Please note that children must be accompanied by a parent to attend the carnival. Thank you!!

    Listserv:

Please go to our website at www.leonschools.net/moore.  Click on LISTSERV and supply the requested information. You will automatically receive electronic updates to your email. This is important when I need to get information out quickly. You will be the first to know!

    Facebook:

I also have a Facebook page to share pictures and information about our daily and weekly happenings here at WT Moore. Please look for me at Sue Kraul, Principal WT Moore and submit a friend request. I will be happy to be your friend! J

    Great Job Mustang:

Several of you have already received phone calls home from me. I ask our teachers to let me know when they have a student who is doing a particularly good job. Our goal is for every student at some time during the year to be recognized. Their names are also announced on our WTME Good Morning Show and their name is added to our bulletin boards in the main hallways. I look forward to making a call home to you soon!

    Join Us for Lunch:

Please consider this an open invitation to join us for lunch anytime.  With the warm weather, many of us are enjoying our great picnic tables located in the courtyard areas.  Lunches may be purchased in the cafeteria or feel free to bring a special treat for you and your child. We do ask that you not share food with anyone other than your child. Students love to see you here at school and they can also invite a friend or two to join them at a special table. Just be sure to sign in at the front office.  J

    Car drop off and pick-up:

Thank you for looking out for our precious Mustangs (and each other) as we arrive and leave each day. Remember that you may park and walk your child across to the sidewalk or you can join the car line for curbside service.

February is the month when we express our love and appreciation to those who mean a lot to us. All of us here at W. T. Moore want you to know how much we appreciate each of you! Your constant support and encouragement shows in your wonderful children. They come every day ready to meet our expectations: respectful, responsible and ready to learn!

    Can the Principal:

Thank you for your generous donations to Second Harvest Food Bank! The hallway leading to my office (and beyond!) was FULL with canned and non-perishable food items. In fact, we had to ask for more boxes to collect them all! THANK YOU!

Martin Luther King, Peace and Positive Dreamers:

Congratulations to Jaden Brown and Jalen Tucker our representatives at the Martin Luther King breakfast. Both students exemplify the characteristics of peace and positive dreamers. Thank you Jaden and Jaylen for being such excellent role models!

    Volunteer Appreciation Reception:

We are truly blessed with wonderful volunteers that help in lots of different ways.  Please join us Monday, February 13th from 4:30-6:00 in our media center for an adults only reception in your honor. This is our way to thank you for all you do for us!

    School Hours Reminder:

Just a friendly reminder that school hours are 8:30-2:50. Students must be in their seats and ready to go at 8:30 when instruction begins. Supervision is available in the mornings starting at 7:45. Please note that students may not be dropped off at school before 7:45 unless they are enrolled in the before school program. Thank you so much for your help with this!

    Principal’s Ice Cream Party:

Every nine weeks we celebrate our students who are making good choices and good decisions. An E on their report card for behavior allows them to attend our ice cream party! It was my pleasure to celebrate with 397 of our wonderful Mustangs! I hope to see more of our students at the next party!

    Car Pick-Up Procedures:

We are always looking at faster and more efficient ways to make dismissal easier for everybody. We need your help at car pick-up. Please be sure to pull all the way forward to the first loading spot when picking up your child.  This process has been designed for multiple children to be loaded into multiple cars all at the same time. It works best when everyone is stopped at each of the loading spots.

Please be assured that we have a system in place for your child to know that you are arriving to pick them up and they are being directed to "follow your car". Please do not stop to pick them up until you have pulled all the way forward to the car stopped in front of you. Thank you so very much for your help with this!

School Choice Information: deadline is March 1st

The Leon County Schools Choice Program allows students to maximize educational opportunities by providing options for attending a school that best meets their specific needs. School Choice/Reassignment Forms are available online at

http://www.leon.k12.fl.us/newLCShomeFiles/planning Policy Dev.html  or at your school. The Planning website also includes information concerning School

Choice options.  Please call the School Choice Office at 487-7546 or 414-5160 with questions concerning School Choice.

Every day is an adventure at W. T. Moore! There is always something going on with students actively engaged in learning. I am blessed to work with exceptional teachers and staff and your children are the best part of our day.  As we approach the holiday season, I would like to wish you peace, happiness, and best wishes for a wonderful New Year.

    Sno-Cone Party:

It was my pleasure to host an ice cream truck party last month for 354 of our E citizenship students. Students who have an E in behavior on their report card are eligible to attend.  I would love for all of our students to join me next time.  Please remind your children that it is important to be on their best Mustang behavior every day… that means respectful, responsible and ready to learn! J

    Book Fair Update:

WOW does not begin to describe your wonderful response to our Fall Book Fair! Our media center profited $3,000 to purchase new books for student check-out. Thank you!

    Cookie Dough Update:

Thanks to everyone who supported the PTM cookie dough fundraiser.  $7,699 was raised due to your generosity! We will be able to purchase and maintain LOTS of technology here at WT Moore!

Please note that Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday December 14th, 15th and 16th are early release days. Students will be dismissed at 12:20 pm. If you are picking up your children from school, please be sure to be here on time. Thank you!

    Can the Principal:

Second Harvest Food Bank has asked us again this year to help with canned food shortages right after the holidays. We will be conducting our Can the Principal food drive during the month of January. It is always fun to fill up the hallway leading to my office for a very worthy cause. Additional information will be coming home next month. Thank you in advance for your participation!

November is traditionally the month to give thanks. The faculty and staff at W.T. Moore would like to thank you for your support. Whether you volunteer in your child’s classroom, support our fundraisers, or participate in some other way……thank you!

    Car drop-off and pick-up:

When dropping off students in the morning, please follow the extended loop up and around the parking lot. This will bring you right along the sidewalk for easy arrival to our smiling, waiting staff. Trying to cut into the line is not only discourteous but dangerous for our precious Mustangs.

Also, please note that we dismiss at 2:50 and students MUST BE PICKED UP BY 3:20. This extra half hour of supervision is for emergencies only that may cause you to be late. We have lots of students waiting at 3:00 with absolutely no one in line to pick them up. I appreciate your help with both these concerns. Thank you!

WT Moore Night at Skate World:

Lace up your roller skates and join us at Skate World on Capital Circle November 3rd from 4:00-8:00! This is always a fun event and we keep 100% of the profits from that night. See you there!

    Cookie Dough Orders Arrive:

Cookie dough orders will be back on Monday, November 21st. Please be sure to come by the cafeteria between 3:00 and 6:00 pm to pick up your orders. The cookie dough needs to be refrigerated and we do not have the capacity to store it overnight.

    Fire Drills:

Over the past few months we have conducted required fire drills. I am so impressed with our students. They have followed directions and responded immediately to our practices. We are confident that in an emergency situation, everyone will know exactly what to do.

    Kudos to Our Custodians:

We would like to recognize our custodial crew: Mr. Manning, Building Maintenance Supervisor, Mr. Whittaker, Mr. Barnes, Mr. Washington, Mrs. Silva and Mr. Mitchell.  W.T. Moore is consistently praised for its overall appearance by community members and district personnel who visit our school. Thank you for making us look good!

    Kids Voting:

On November 8th don’t forget to take your children with you to the voting precinct. Every four years, children have the opportunity to participate in the voting process with a special ballot. We will be holding a Rally that morning along with a visit from Uncle Sam. Patriotic songs will be sung, the voting process will be discussed and students will participate in a mock voting experience.

Welcome to October! We must be having a ton of fun at W. T. Moore because the days are just flying by.  We are all so impressed with the respect and responsibility that your children demonstrate every day along with being ready to learn! Thank you for reinforcing these with your children.

    School Hours:

Our first bell in the morning rings at 8:25 for all our students to head to their classrooms. When the second bell rings at 8:30 all students are expected to be in their seats. Teachers begin daily directions and instructions at that time. Students arriving to school after 8:30 must go to the front office for a late pass and are marked tardy. This does not apply to students who ride a school bus…the buses are always here on time!

Our day ends at 2:50. Please be sure to schedule doctors and dentists appointments later in the day so your child’s education is not impacted. In the event that you must sign your child out early, please provide us with a note from your doctor or dentist the next day so that it is excused. Most offices have these school excuses readily available and will be happy to provide you one when you ask.

We appreciate you respecting the instructional time between 8:30 and 2:50. Our teachers' priority during this time is to their students. Please understand that making a parent conference before or after school is the best way to ensure that teachers can give you their undivided attention and are prepared to answer all of your questions.

    Book Club:

I hope your children have shared with you that our book club theme for this year is GROOVY. The “club” is incorporated into the instructional day. Students are encouraged to read a variety of books from different genres. Students who have completed the requirement for their book club are awarded a beautiful medallion that is worn on book club days. As students continue to read, achievement pins are awarded and worn on the medallion ribbon. We are excited about this great opportunity to encourage our students to read!

    PTM Cookie Dough Fundraiser:

Information has already come home with your child regarding cookie dough orders. This is always our most popular fundraiser and we look forward to another great year of participation. Orders are due October 19th. Please remember that elementary students are not permitted to go door to door. Thank you in advance for your help with this!

Fall Box Top Collection and Labels for Education:

It’s that time of year to turn in or be on the look-out for box tops and labels. We appreciate all of you who collect them all year long. Please send them in by October 24th. There will be another collection date in the spring. Thank you!!

    WT Moore Family Movie Night:

Our wonderful PTM Board and volunteers are planning a Halloween themed Family Movie Night for October 28th in the cafeteria. Information will be coming home soon along with an opportunity to order dinner. The movie is FREE! J

    Use Caution at Car Drop-off:

Just a reminder to please use caution when dropping children off in the morning. Please be sure that your child has exited the car and is safely up on the sidewalk before driving off. As you know, there is A LOT of activity in the parking lot in the morning. Your attention to the safety of ALL our precious Mustangs is greatly appreciated!

    School Advisory Council:

A huge thank you to our SAC for this school year. Parent representatives are Rebecca Amnott, Mary Bliss, Michael Combs, Kaitlin Ferris, Kimberly Houlios, Michele Meyer, Jimmy Perkins, Delores Thomas, Pamela Thompson and Gregory Williams. Feel free to join us on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 in the media center.

    Volunteers:

If you have some time to come into school or if you are willing to work on some things at home, please be sure to complete a volunteer application online. You can also contact our fabulous volunteer coordinator, Paulina Brewer at paulinabrewer@yahoo.com Thank you in advance for all your help!

    Birthday Pencils:

When your children have a birthday, encourage them to come by my office for a special birthday pencil.  I have a great selection and they get to choose.  This is also a perfect opportunity for me to get to know your children and congratulate them on being another year older!

    Mustang Spirit Fridays:

Students, parents and staff are encouraged to show their Mustang spirit on Fridays. Wear your W. T. Moore t-shirt or wear green and yellow, our school colors. Mustang shirts are available from Mrs. Hudson in the main office if you are interested.

Welcome back to a new school year! We are so impressed with your children’s enthusiasm and excitement. We have had an excellent first two weeks! Expect “Principal Notes” to come home at the beginning of each month.  It will be printed on bright orange paper so you won’t miss it in a backpack. This is an opportunity for me to share information and upcoming dates with you. Be sure to visit our website www.leonschools.net/moore for overall school information.  Teachers will also be sending home weekly newsletters or posting information on their class websites.

    FREE Breakfast and Lunch:

Students are able to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year. Please note that breakfast is served from 7:45-8:20 only. Our first bell rings at 8:25 and students are expected to be in class and ready for instruction promptly at 8:30.

    Hand Sanitizer:

We ask for your cooperation in not sending your child to school with individual hand sanitizer bottles. Most of these products are alcohol based and could pose a danger to other children if not used properly. Packets of wipes are much safer and do not take up much room in a lunchbox or backpack. Thank you for your help with this.

School Advisory Council and PTM (Parents and Teachers for Moore):

Our School Advisory Council and PTM board meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 5:30 and 6:30 respectively in the media center. Keep an eye out for specific dates as the year progresses.  The next scheduled meeting for both groups is September 19th. If you are interested in serving on SAC or helping out with PTM, please let me know ASAP!

    Before and After School:

Our Before School program begins at 7:00 am and includes breakfast, computers, and a game and homework center. During the After School program, the children have 45 minutes to 1 hour of homework help and a snack is included. The After School hours are from dismissal until 6:00 pm.  Call 488-1930 to reserve your space. Lakeisha Kirby-Sapp and her staff look forward to working with you and your children.

    Come Eat Lunch:

We welcome our parents and family members to come eat lunch.  This is a special treat for students as they get to eat lunch with you at a special table and invite two of their friends to join them. You may purchase lunch from the cafeteria or bring in your own lunch for you and your child. Just be sure to check-in at the front office first.

    School Visitors:

Your child’s safety is our number one concern. All visitors to the school must come by the front office to sign in.  We have a Raptor System that will print a sticker with your name and photo from your driver’s license, so please have your license handy when you come. For our parents who are regular volunteers and have completed the screening process, we have a W.T. Moore lanyard and nametag pre-printed for you.

    School Traffic:

Thank you for your patience each morning and afternoon as you drop off and pick up your children. I am so impressed with everyone’s cooperation and pleasant attitude.

Please note that the bus ramp area is designed for bus arrivals and departures only.  Our bus drivers do not expect to see cars or children in the bus ramp so for everyone’s safety, please do not drop off or pick up your child from this area.

    School Public Accountability Report:

The 2015-16 School Public Accountability Report (SPAR) is available online at www.fldoe.org/eias/eiaspubs  This report includes important information about kindergarten readiness; test scores; and enrollment.

    List Serv:

If you are not currently a member of our list serv, please go to our website at www.leonschools.net/moore. Click on Moore List Serv under the Parent Tab and supply the requested information. You will automatically receive electronic updates to your email. This is important when I need to get information out quickly. You’ll be the first to know!

    Safe Footwear:

We recommend closed toe shoes for our students. While sandals are cute and comfortable, they are tough on little toes especially on our playground. During PE, students must wear sneakers or a closed toe shoe. Thanks for your help with this!

Where has the year gone? How can it be May already? What a treat for all of us to spend these 180 school days with such bright and loving children. Thank you for sharing them with us on a daily basis. This will be the last Principal Notes for the year so please have a safe and relaxing summer. We look forward to seeing you all again in August!

    Kindergarten Registration:

Now is the time to register for kindergarten. If you have a child entering school or know of a neighbor or friend with a kindergarten age child living in the Moore school zone, registration packets are available in the front office.  Please register children early so we can plan accordingly for next year.

    Staff Appreciation:

Staff appreciation was May 2nd  - 6th. Thank you to Gregory Williams and Sara Charles, two of our dynamic parents, for coordinating the activities. We at WT Moore celebrate ALL of our staff during this time and appreciate all your donations and kind words. THANK YOU!

    PTM Board Members Needed:

As you know, our PTM does an excellent job planning and coordinating everything all year long. Their efforts add a tremendous amount of support to our entire school and raise much needed funds that go directly back into the classrooms.

We are always looking for parents to join us at our PTM board meetings that are held the third Monday of every month from 6:30-7:30. Our PTM board is comprised of: President,

Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fund Raising Coordinator, Staff Appreciation Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator and Carnival Coordinator.

If you would be interested in helping out with any of these positions, please let me know and I will be sure to send you a reminder when we meet at the beginning of next year!

    Mentors:

We are very fortunate to have wonderful mentors who meet weekly with assigned students to help them with academics and to be their cheerleader! This year we have a large number of mentors from our neighbors at Westminster Oaks as well as other community agencies and parents. If you are interested in joining this great mentoring group, please contact Mrs. Eaton in our guidance office and she will be happy to set you up!

    Spring Birthdays:

We love celebrating birthdays but please be sure to check with your child’s teacher. Typically, this is not a party but a special treat that is brought in at snack time along with a congratulatory “Happy Birthday” sung by classmates.

    Carnival Update:

It was wonderful to see so many of you at our school carnival. It was such a success because you were there! Thank you to our Carnival Coordinator and  Volunteer Coordinator Paulina Brewer for coordinating everything and to all of you who sent in items or provided coverage at the booths. It was truly a super fun event enjoyed by all. All funds raised from the carnival assist with technology needs in the classrooms. This is just another example of what a great group of parents we have at Moore!

    Come for Lunch:

You are welcome any day to come have lunch with your child. Feel free to buy a lunch through the cafeteria or bring in lunch for you and your child. We ask that you please do not share food or bring food for anyone other than your child. We have several students with food allergies and medical issues that you certainly may not be aware of. Just having you here is a treat in itself! Thank you for understanding.

    Stepping Up:

Look for information to come home with your child’s report card about “stepping up” to the next grade. Our teachers are compiling suggestions for you on skills your child needs to maintain to be ready for the next grade. These will also be posted on teacher websites so feel free to visit us at www.leonschools.net/moore Be sure to sign up for the listserv too so you are immediately notified when school-wide information is sent out.

On your child’s report card this nine weeks was a notice indicating the current phone number that we have on file. This is the number that we would call in the event of an emergency. Please let us know ASAP if we need to make a correction.

We do ask that you not share food with anyone other than your child. Students love to see you here at school and they can also invite a friend or two to join them at a special table.
