About Ms. Kerr

Hello, my name is Laura Kerr.  I love being a "Gilchrist Grizzly".  I have been a part of the Gilchrist family for 21 years.  I have taught kindergarten and first grade.

I was born and raised in Orlando, FL.  I began my college career at Valencia Community College where I received my AA degree.  I continued my college career at the University of Central Florida where I received my BS in Education.  Go Knights!!!  I have to admit though that I am a NOLE fan at heart!!!

Family is very important to me.  I love spending time with my son, Charlie.  He is a handsome redhead that will be finishing his last year in middle school.

During my free time I love going to the beach, reading, watching FSU football, and my guilty pleasure is to just relax and watch TV.

My Goal

My goal as a teacher is to help make a difference in my student's lives.  I want to help them learn, teach them responsibility, and inspire them to be their best.  The one thing that drives me as a teacher is my love of educating students.  In the classroom we work together as a family, we learn together, we trust each other, and we feel safe to take chances when learning new concepts.  As your child enters first grade this year there will be a big jump from kindergarten to first grade as your child is introduced to all the rigor of the first grade curriculum.  Reading and math will be a huge focus.  These are the areas that I will work with your child to help them achieve the highest level of growth they can this year.  I look forward to working with and receiving support from my families this year in order to help the children make this a wonderful year of learning and growing!
