Mr. Hawkins has been teaching school for the past 27 years. Before starting his teaching career, he graduated with honors from Florida State University, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Social Science Education. After graduating, he began teaching at Woodland Hall Academy, which was a special needs school that specialized in dyslexia. He then went on to teach high school in Leon County at Amos P. Godby. During his tenure at Godby, he received a Master's Degree from FSU in Social Science Education and became a National Board Certified Teacher. He also became Gifted and ELL certified through Leon County Schools. After 14 years of dedicated service, he then transferred to Deerlake Middle School. For the past 13 years, he has taught American History and Civics. He also sponsors and teaches TV Production which produces Deerlake's award winning morning news program, (The Deer)
