BEST AND BRIGHTEST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
With the passing of HB 7055, the Florida Legislature continued the Florida’s Best and Brightest Scholarship Program. The Best and Brightest Scholarship is intended to reward Florida classroom teachers, as defined in *1012.01 (2) (a), F.S., whose 2017-2018 school year evaluation reflects their performance as “Highly Effective” and who have earned college entrance exam scores indicating they were exceptionally well prepared for college level coursework with SAT or ACT test scores in the 80th percentile based on the rank when the assessment was taken.
To be considered, you must complete the 2018-2019 Best and Brightest Qualification Form and the Confirmation of Classroom Teaching Responsibilities Form. These forms are attached and are PDF fillable forms so you can type information directly on them and print them for signatures. Along with these forms, you must submit your 2017-18 summative evaluation verifying your rating of Highly Effective. If you are a previous LCS Best and Brightest recipient with qualifying ACT or SAT scores on file, you are not required to resubmit those scores. I encourage you to read the Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Q & A for additional information before completing the forms.
On October 31, 2018, an Emergency Order was received from the Commissioner of Education extending the deadline to make application for the Best and Brightest Teacher Scholarship Program as a result of the devastating effects of Hurricane Michael on many Florida school districts. All application materials must be hand delivered to Human Resources at 2757 West Pensacola Street by 5pm on Monday, December 3, 2018. If you have any questions, contact Mary Nicholson, Director of Human Resources at 850-487-7197 or Dr. Michelle Gayle, Assistant Superintendent of Professional and Community Services at 850-487-7855 or you can email questions to LCSBestandBrightest@leonschools.net.
Best wishes and thank you for your dedication to our students!
