Penny Kehoe, Florida School Nurse of the Year!
According to Shelley Bumm, FASN president, Kehoe's “extensive years of experience in school nursing, her innovative program initiatives and her letters of support elevated the strength of her nominations.”
Kehoe was honored this weekend at the statewide Florida Association of School Nurses 20th Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.
She has been a valuable part of the Leon County Schools Early Childhood Programs staff since February 2012. She started at Leon County Schools as a school nurse in 2009 and has worked in pediatrics throughout her career.
Kehoe graciously oversees the health concerns of the students, staff, parents and visitors for Early Childhood Programs. She serves at the district level as well fulfilling duties such as the medical review portion of hospital homebound requests, performing vision and hearing screenings, and conducting generalized health and child specific training for teachers and bus drivers. She even assists as a substitute nurse at the district special needs center school, Gretchen Everhart School.
Kehoe’s supervisor, Martha Fletcher, Director of Exceptional Student Educational and Early Childhood Programs, describes her as “ a professional who takes her responsibilities to heart”.
In June Penny will be representing FASN at the National Association of School Nurses Conference in Indianapolis as Florida’s candidate for School Nurse of Excellence.
