Chalk Walk 2017

Presented by Florida Division of Cultural Affairs at the Florida Historic Capitol Museum
Wednesday, Mar 22, 2017
Inspired by master Florida artists, local high school students will create 36" x 36" chalk artworks to share with the community. Students will work in an outdoor area between the House and Historic Capitol (north end of the courtyard) from 10:00-3:30 and the finished artworks will be judged by board members from the Florida Council on Arts and Culture. The general public can choose their favorite artwork through a People's Choice Vote at 4:0). Awards will be announced at 4:30. Please come out to congratulate all the students artists involved and to show the 2017 Legislators that you support arts and culture!
Clementine Hunter's World
Presented by Goodwood Museum & Gardens at Goodwood Museum and Gardens
Thursday, Mar 23, 2017
As the civil rights protests of the 1950s were beginning to jolt America, self-taught African American artist, Clementine Hunter quietly painted a visual diary of plantation life in Melrose, Louisiana - unaware her painted images would in time become portals illuminating the racial divide on the other side of the 20th century plantation fence. Documentary, 35 min., NR. by Art Shiver

Time Framed
Presented by School of Dance at FSU at Nancy Smith Fichter Dance Theatre
Mar 24, 2017 - Mar 25, 2017

MFA candidates Jennifer Petuch and Ross Daniel will present Time Framed in partial fulfillment of the Master of Fine Arts Degree in Dance.

Petuch choreographed, directed, digitally designed, and is a featured dancer in her 25-minute narrative work, Within Time's Grip. The work follows the journey of the protagonist (Petuch) through her formative years into her possible future. She moves through a metaphorical riff in the "Locker of Time," and must traverse different worlds that represent life's challenges, illuminating how her actions, decisions, trials, and triumphs shape who she will become in the future.

(A-frame vs. Human Form) & (Structure vs. Emotion) are the intertwining ideas that Daniel investigated in order to create his Infinite K, a 21-minute work in which the composition and decomposition of physical and sculptural structures take place throughout the duration of the work. The performers manipulate flat, transparent rectangles (7.6 feet in height and 3.6 feet in width) to create sculptures that are in direct contrast to the size and structure of the human body, blurring the lines between inanimate objects and the human form.

Faust and Frivolous - A Mickee Faust Cabaret / Variety Show
Presented by Mickee Faust Club - Community Theater for the Weird Community at Mickee Faust Clubhouse
Mar 24, 2017 - Apr 01, 2017

Tallahassee in springtime is a yellow-dusty wonderland deserving of the iconic "Sound of Music" scene with Julie Andrews running and spinning into the frame to declare "The hills are alive with the sound of mucous!" At least, if the Mickee Faust Club could re-imagine the movie musical, that's what we'd see. And you will see something of that kind in the troupe's latest cabaret, "Faust and Frivolous."
"The world has gone bat(bleep) crazy!" says Mickee Faust, the rodent potentate cigar puffing character played by co-founder Terry Galloway. "This show isn't political. But it's just as nuts as anything brewing at either our Capitol or the one in DC!"
